After long workdays and busy schedules, many homeowners are looking for ways to relax at home. Public spa visits are not always convenient, and building a custom wellness space can feel like a lot of work to do on your own. Getting a pre-built custom sauna might be just what you are looking for.
Happy Camper Cottages builds custom outdoor saunas that bring the spa experience directly to your backyard. Designed for comfort and durability, our saunas offer a private space to unwind year-round.
Our saunas are designed to last. Standard with all cedar interiors, vapor barrier, and moisture resistant insulation.
We tailor the size, style, and colors to fit your space and usage needs.
Enjoy the benefits of a sauna without leaving your property.
We avoid using materials in the sauna room that could emit unhealthy or harmful vapors, such as plastic products or treated wood, etc. All lighting inside the sauna room is heat rated, designed especially for saunas. Light switches and heater controls are placed outside with a waterproof rain cover.

Ventilation
Ventilation details are important, if you’re looking for a comfortable sauna experience and a sauna built to last. Our saunas are standard with wall vents, plus a floor designed for ventilation and drainage. This vent system ensures comfortable and even heat distribution. After each use, be sure to open all vents to allow your sauna to air out.
Built the Finnish way, with 2×4 construction, Rockwool insulation (high moisture tolerant), vapor barrier, furring strips, and Western Red Cedar. Our outdoor saunas are designed for health, comfort, and longevity.

Looking for a comfortable sauna experience? 2-level benches add increased comfort and even heat distribution. We use Western Red Cedar for all the interior, the floor, walls, ceilings, and benches. Stainless steel nails are used to fasten the cedar. For the floor, we use 5/4 cedar deck boards fastened with stainless steel screws. Sharp edges are carefully sanded, providing a smooth, splinter-free surface.

Temperature and humidity can easily be adjusted by opening the vents, changing the temperature setting on the heater controls, or by adjusting the amount of steam. Real steam is created by pouring water over the heated rocks. We recommend starting with small amounts of water (1/2 cup or less) and adding more as needed, to reach your desired level of humidity.

Every sauna needs a solid, level foundation. Most homeowners choose a compacted gravel pad or a concrete slab. Both options provide the stability your sauna needs to perform well and last for years.
Choose wood-fired if you value an authentic Finnish sauna experience, offgrid capability, richer heat and steam, if you enjoy stoking a fire, and have time for preparation and maintenance. Choose electric if you prioritize fast, convenient, precise heating and low maintenance. Both perform well and provide similar health benefits.
Glass walls perform well in most climates. For colder climates, we recommend choosing a large, insulated window and insulated door, rather than a glass wall.
Saunas built with traditional Finnish standards have proper ventilation, air flow, and multi-level benches for a more comfortable sauna experience, and are designed for lasting durability. Barrel saunas prioritize visual simplicity and are more economical.
You can get an economical barrel Sauna for as low as $5,000, while your Traditional Finnish Sauna is usually in the $7,000 to $25,000 range.
For larger sizes and custom built saunas you might be looking at $25,000-$50,000, or more.

For most people, using your sauna 2-4 times a week delivers great results. Aim for sessions between 15 and 30 minutes to experience the full benefits of consistent heat exposure. If you have underlying health concerns or medical conditions, it is wise to consult your healthcare provider to determine what level of use makes sense for you. The goal is steady and consistent progress, not pushing limits.
With electric heaters, it usually takes 30-45 minutes. Wood-fired heaters have longer warm-up times, usually 45-60 minutes.
A traditional sauna typically runs between 160 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit, delivering the deep, steady heat most people expect. Many follow the “200 Rule”; for example, 180 degrees with 20% humidity creates a balanced, comfortable heat that feels strong without being overwhelming.
In some areas, a sauna does not require a permit and is treated like a small shed. Often staying under 200 square feet keeps you exempt. However, local codes vary, so a quick check with your township is always worthwhile.

Does your backyard have fences or trees that might keep us from accessing it with our shed mule? Usually it’s easier and more economical to remove a fence or trim trees, than it is to have it built on site. Your contractor who does your stone or concrete pad for the Sauna can often remove your fence, and then re-install the fence after your Sauna is delivered.
In worst case scenarios, our outdoor Saunas can sometimes be lifted over your house or obstacles with a crane. Even this is usually cheaper than an on site build.
